And the beast that I saw was like a leopard; its feet were like a bear's, and its mouth was like a lion's mouth. And to it the dragon gave his power and his throne and great authority. Book of Revelation 13:2

About the game

De la Bête will take place in the area of the Valeč castle. It's a high-production game inspired by French novels, legends and great themes of the late Ancien Régime period. Although it is largely based on the stories of the Beast of Gévaudan, it is not set in a specific years and it draws only loose inspiration from historical events, rather than describing them accurately. It can be said that it takes place in an unspecified part of the second half of the eighteenth century. De la Bête deals with transformation of mind, dramatic conflict and emotions. The game itself takes 48 hours and it will be preceded by intensive workshops in which we will try to get all the players on the same wave.

What is a larp?

Larp is a game based on roleplaying. It is theatre improvisation, but unlike in theatre, in larp you are not playing for spectators, but only for yourself and your partners. You are both an actor and a spectator at the same time. You participate on the creation of the game and its story yourself, not tied by any script or a director. In the beginning of the game you get an outline of a role's character and the rest is up to you. You alone decide what your character will do and how it will behave, and through that you influence the direction the game goes in. Larps are really for everyone - they are not played by professional actors, but by normal people, students, working people. Through interaction with other players and with the environment they create an unrepeatable story and a unique atmosphere of every larp. (Source:

Style of the game

De la Bête is a high-production dramatic larp for 97 players set in 18th century France. It is a serious, atmospheric game with prepared game content for every character. The characters' personal views are key: each character has its own strong theme which unifies its story. Although a number of story twists is pre-designed, the player still has quite a high level of freedom and responsibility to play out the offered story and relationship lines and to move the game forward through that.

De la Bête is a vast historical fresco which offers its characters diverse game content. Some characters are based more on relationship lines, some on intrigue or a significant element of action. Some story lines contain strong traces of horror, some resemble a spy thriller.

Approach to history

The goal of De la Bête is not to portray history in a completely accurate way. It sees it rather as a background for fictional stories that could take place at the given time. Drama is always more important than historical accuracy. The way we approach history is therefore more similar to novels, rather than, say, history books. The game interconnects event which in reality took place in different years; and that is its intent.

Registration for the upcoming international run which (originally planned for September 2015) will take place in 2016 will begin in September.  You can find more details about both in the tab To Morsange.
